On that note I mentioned that I used FastStone Viewer to auto generate dated folders, so I could at some non busy times have a couple of weeks of images from cards to be auto sorted, that makes it easier than trying to remember to download every night. Not until then would I format the SD card, but actually later, as I "rotate" a couple of SD cards for every camera. I also make backups to two different USB-HDD, using the same folder system. The old Windows photo viewer is very good for looking at the pictures directly in these Windows folders, but for editing I open up PaintShopPro) Prior to downloading the contents from a SD card I create the folder, as you create normal Win folders, and rename it, like it today would be " (+ possibly a description) No more time consuming than perhaps 15 second to create such folder! Then I just load the SD content into this folder. Couldn't be faster and easier, and Windows can't mess with those filesĪll the "year"-"month"-"date" folders are placed as "sub folders" in a "year" folder. I have made standard Windows folders for every download I've made from digital cameras (or scanners) for the last 18 years.
